The Truth About Slow Sales on eBay (And Why It’s Normal)

One of the hardest parts of reselling especially when you’re running a home based business is dealing with slow sales. It can feel discouraging when listings sit for weeks or even months without much activity but the truth is, this is completely normal in the reselling world.

Not every item sells overnight. Some pieces are seasonal, niche, or simply waiting for right buyer. I currently have listings in my store that have been active for months and that doesn’t mean they are bad items. It just means reselling is a long game, not a quick flip every time.

I’ve learned that slow sales don’t always mean you should panic or drastically slash prices. Sometimes the real solution is updating your title, refreshing the listing, improving photos, or using the ” sell similar” feature to reset visibility. Another important factor is demand. Everyday brands, practical items, and well priced inventory tend to move faster than highly specific or trendy pieces. That’s why I focus on a mix of fast- moving basics and long tail items that may take time but still bring steady profit.

Running Burgoon Home Haven while balancing family life and work outside of the home has taught me patience in business. Some days are busy with sales and other days are quiet. Consistency, not perfection, is what builds sustainable income from reselling at home.

  • How I Source Inventory as a Busy Mom of Three

How I Source Inventory as a Busy Mom of Three

Running a resale business from home while raising a family means my sourcing strategy has to be realistic, flexible, and efficient. As a busy mom of three, I don’t have the luxury of spending full days hunting for inventory, so I focus intentionally sourcing the fits into my everyday routine.

Instead of relying on one method, I source from a mix of thrift stores, clearance sections, local finds, and occasional bundle deals. I have learned that consistency matters more than perfection. Even quick sourcing trips or small halls can add up to steady inventory over time.

If you’re new to reselling, it’s important to understand that you don’t need massive inventory to start. Many successful resellers begin with just a few quality items sourced affordably. I often look for practical, brand name and every-day use items that families are already searching for online, like clothing, basics, home decor and useful household goods. If your new to reselling check out My #1 Rule as a Reseller: Profit Starts at Purchase

Another key part of my sourcing routine is budgeting I always consider cost of goods before purchasing and ask myself if the item has resale demand reasonable shipping weight and profit potential. This helps me avoid over buying and keeps my business sustainable long term.

Sourcing as a home- based reseller isn’t about chasing every deal- it’s about choosing items that align with your lifestyle, space, and goals. By sourcing intentionally and consistently I’m able to grow Burgoon Home Haven while still prioritizing my family and home life.

  • It’s amazing what a little moisture in the air can do!

It’s amazing what a little moisture in the air can do!

As a busy mom, reseller, and someone constantly on the go, I’ve realized how much dry indoor air can affect daily comfort — especially during colder months and heating season.

After trying a few different humidifiers, I finally found one that is simple, effective, and actually fits into a cozy home routine without being bulky or complicated.

This humidifier helps add moisture back into the air, making my space feel more comfortable, refreshed, and cozy. I especially love using it in the bedroom and workspace where dry air tends to be the worst.

While no humidifier is a miracle fix, I personally noticed:

More comfortable breathing at night Less dry air feeling in the room A more cozy, balanced home environment

What I like most is how easy it is to use and maintain. It doesn’t require anything complicated, which is perfect for busy days running Burgoon Home Haven and managing home life.

For anyone building a cozy, comfortable home setup — especially during winter or dry seasons — this has been a practical and worthwhile home essential for me.

  • How to Style Decorative Signs for a Cozy, Meaningful Home

How to Style Decorative Signs for a Cozy, Meaningful Home

Decorative signs are one of the simplest ways to add warmth and personality to your home. Whether you lean farmhouse, seasonal, or faith-inspired, a well-placed sign can instantly anchor a space and create a cozy focal point.

One of my favorite ways to style decorative signs is on a floating shelf or mantel. Layering greenery, seasonal accents, and small decorative pieces around a sign helps create depth and visual interest. For example, pairing a “Blessed” sign with faux greenery, gold accents, and subtle seasonal decor creates a welcoming display that feels both intentional and effortless.

Decorative signs also make wonderful transitional pieces. You can easily swap surrounding elements to match the season while keeping the main sign in place. Add soft florals in spring, warm textures in fall, or festive touches during the holidays. This allows you to refresh your space without redecorating an entire room.

Another tip is mixing materials. Wood signs paired with greenery, metal accents, or neutral shelves create contrast while maintaining balance. The key is layering — not cluttering. Leave a little breathing room so the message of the sign remains the focal point.

Home decor should reflect what matters most to you. Whether it’s a word like “Blessed,” a meaningful quote, or a seasonal piece, decorative signs allow you to express your personality in a simple, beautiful way.

  • Why I Still Pick Up $1 Items as a Reseller

Why I Still Pick Up $1 Items as a Reseller

One of the biggest questions I get as a reseller is why still pick up $1 items when I could focus only on higher priced inventory. The answer is simple small profits add up quickly when you source smart

As a home based reseller running Burgoon Home Haven I’m always looking for affordable fines that have everyday demand items like clothing basics home decor kids’ items and brand name pieces can often be found for just a few dollars sometimes even less at clearance or thrift stores

When I buy low cost inventory it gives me flexibility. I can price competitively, except offers and still make a profit without stress. Not every item needs to be a huge flip. Consistent smaller wins create steady income over time

I’ve learned that reselling isn’t about chasing the most expensive items. It’s about spotting value where others overlook it. A $1 item that sells for $12 – $18 may not seem flashy, but when you repeat that process consistently, it builds a reliable income stream from home
