  • Why Some eBay Items Sell Fast… and Others Take Forever

Corkboard with pictures of vintage items marked sold and a handcrafted leather journal for sale

If you’ve been reselling for any amount of time, you’ve probably noticed this:

👉 Some items sell within hours…
👉 Others sit for weeks (or months)…
👉 And some randomly sell out of nowhere

    So what’s the difference?

After watching my own store closely, here’s what I’m learning about why some items move fast — and others don’t.

⚡ 1. Demand vs. “Cool Find”

Not everything that looks like a great find is actually in demand.

    For example:

    • Trendy or seasonal items (like glitter shoes for prom) may sit… then suddenly sell when the timing is right
    • Everyday brands (like Cole Haan shoes) tend to sell more steadily

👉 Lesson: Demand matters more than how “cool” something is.

🔍 2. Keywords Make or Break Visibility

If buyers can’t find your item, they can’t buy it.

A few small changes can make a big difference:

    • Adding brand + size + style in your title
    • Using words buyers actually search for
    • Avoiding vague titles

    👉 Example:
    Instead of: “Nice Brown Shoes”
Try: “Cole Haan Men’s Brown Leather Loafers Size 7M Dress Casual”

👉 Lesson: Better keywords = more visibility = more sales.

💰 3. Price Strategy Affects Speed

Here’s something I’ve learned the hard way:

    • Lower-priced items tend to sell faster
    • Higher-priced items may take longer (but can bring better profit)

    Right now in my store:
✔ Items under $25 are moving quicker
✔ Bundles help increase value without scaring buyers off

👉 Lesson: If it’s not selling, price might be the issue.

    📦 4. Shipping & Simplicity Matter

    Buyers love:

    • Simple shipping
    • Reasonable costs
    • Quick handling

Smaller, lightweight items (like fishing lures or small bundles) often sell faster because:

    • They’re cheaper to ship
    • Easier decisions for buyers

👉 Lesson: The easier you make it, the faster it sells.

⏳ 5. Time in the Market (Patience Pays)

This is the one most people struggle with (including me):

    Some items just need time.

    I’ve had items sit…
Then suddenly sell with no changes.

    Why?

    • A new buyer finally searched for it
    • Timing lined up (season, need, trend)
    • eBay pushed the listing again

👉 Lesson: Not every item is a fast flip — and that’s okay.

    🔄 6. Consistency Triggers Sales

    This one is HUGE.

    Every time I:

    • List more items
    • Update old listings
    • Stay active

    👉 Sales start happening again.

    Even older items benefit from:

    • “Sell Similar” refresh
    • Minor title tweaks
    • Updated photos

    👉 Lesson: Activity brings visibility.

💡 What I’m Doing Differently Now

Instead of expecting everything to sell fast, I’m focusing on:

    ✔ Listing consistently
    ✔ Mixing fast-moving + slower items
✔ Bundling where it makes sense
✔ Watching what actually sells (not just what I like)

    ❤️ Final Thoughts

If your items are sitting right now — you’re not doing anything wrong.

Reselling isn’t just about finding good items…
It’s about understanding timing, demand, and consistency.

    And sometimes?

👉 Items sit… then suddenly sell overnight.

Reselling Success: Key Trends from This Week’s Sales

I’m a little behind on posting this week (life and work have been a lot lately 😅), but I still wanted to share what’s been selling in my store — because even during slower weeks, sales are still happening.

If you’re reselling or thinking about starting, this is your reminder:
👉 It doesn’t have to be perfect — it just has to be consistent.

✨ This Week’s eBay Sales Breakdown

Men’s Silver Glitter Loafers (Size 7)
    Sold for: $20

These were such a fun find. Statement pieces like this can sit for a bit, but when the right buyer comes along (think prom, weddings, events), they sell.

Reseller tip: Unique items may take longer, but they often stand out more.

Cole Haan Men’s Leather Loafers (Size 7M)
    Sold for: $30

Classic brands continue to be reliable. Cole Haan is one I’ll almost always pick up if the condition is good.

Reseller tip: Stick with known brands for steady, consistent sales.

    🎣 6th Sense Quake 70 Crankbait (Lot of 2)
    Sold for: $21.99

Fishing gear has been a surprisingly consistent category for me. These smaller items are easy to store and ship.

Reseller tip: Don’t overlook niche categories — they often have loyal buyers.

🪱 YUM Soft Plastic Worms (Lot of 3)
    Sold for: $15

This was a simple bundle that made sense. Lightweight, easy to list, and quick to ship.

Reseller tip: Bundling smaller items can increase value and move inventory faster.

💡 What I’m Learning Right Now

This wasn’t a huge profit week — and that’s okay.

Here’s what I’m seeing in my store:

    • Lower-priced items are moving faster right now
    • A mix of categories helps keep consistent sales
    • Bundles are working well
    • Older inventory WILL sell — patience matters

📈 What I’m Focusing On Next

As I continue building my reselling business, my focus is:

    • Listing consistently (this is always the biggest driver of sales)
    • Being more mindful about inventory spending
    • Keeping things simple and scalable
    • Paying attention to what’s actually selling (not just what I like)

    ❤️ Final Thoughts

If you’re feeling discouraged in your reselling journey — I get it. I’ve been there (and honestly still am some days).

But weeks like this remind me:
    👉 Sales are still happening
    👉 Progress is still happening

    And that’s what matters.

What Sold This Week at Burgoon Home Haven

Real Sales • Real Strategy • Real Life Reselling

This week was a great mix of home décor and fashion accessories, and I love seeing how different types of inventory continue to move when priced and presented right!

Here’s a breakdown of what sold—and a few takeaways you can use in your own reselling journey 👇

🌿 Set of 2 Artificial Succulent Plants

    Sold for: $14.99 + shipping
    Sale Type: Promoted Listing

These little succulents are proof that simple home décor sells consistently. They’re lightweight, easy to ship, and appeal to a wide audience—from office décor to dorm rooms.

    👉 Reseller Tip:
Keep an eye out for neutral, everyday décor pieces. They may not bring huge profit individually, but they sell fast and steady, especially when promoted.

My personal Picture. I want a pair of these amazing glasses!

DAX Eyewear Aviator Sunglasses (Pink/Purple Lens)

    Sold for: $36.99 + shipping
    Sale Type: Promoted Listing

Now THIS is the kind of flip we love 🙌
Stylish, trendy, and eye-catching—these aviators had everything going for them.

Bright mirrored lenses + classic black frame = high click-through appeal.

    👉 Reseller Tip:
Items that pop visually (like bold sunglasses) perform better in search AND when scrolling. Your main photo matters more than anything—this is a great example of that.

    Weekly Takeaways

✔️ Promoted listings are still doing their job
Both of these sales came through promotions—visibility matters, especially in competitive categories.

    ✔️ Mix your inventory
    Having both:

    • Low-cost, steady sellers (like décor)
    • Higher-margin items (like sunglasses)

…keeps your store balanced and cash flowing.

    ✔️ Photos = clicks = sales
Clean backgrounds + good lighting helped these items stand out.

    💡 Final Thoughts

This week is a reminder that you don’t need massive, expensive inventory to stay consistent.
    It’s about:

    • Smart sourcing
    • Clean listings
    • And staying active

I’m continuing to test pricing, promotion rates, and bundles—so stay tuned for next week’s breakdown!

  • Why Your eBay Listings Sit… Then Suddenly Sell Overnight

Why Your eBay Listings Sit… Then Suddenly Sell Overnight

(And how to make that happen more often)

You ever have an item just sit there…

    Days…

    Weeks…

    Maybe even months…

    No watchers.

    No offers.

    Barely any views.

Then out of nowhere — it sells. Just like that.

No changes. No edits. No promotion tweaks.

    So what actually happened?

    Let’s break it down 👇

    1. eBay Is Always Testing Your Listings

When you list something, eBay doesn’t just “show it” to everyone.

It tests your item in waves:

Small group of buyers Then a bigger group Then more if it performs well

If people click, watch, or engage, your listing gets pushed further.

If they don’t — it slows down.

👉 That’s why some items feel “dead” at first.

    2. Timing Matters More Than You Think

Sometimes your item isn’t the problem…

    It’s timing.

Payday hits Seasonal demand kicks in Someone finally searches that exact thing

    And boom — sale.

    💡 Example:

Winter gear sits… until the first cold snap.

Home decor sits… until someone redecorates.

    3. The Right Buyer Hasn’t Seen It Yet

    This is HUGE.

You don’t need everyone to want your item.

    You need ONE right buyer.

    The one:

Looking for that exact brand That exact size That exact style

Until they show up… it waits.

    4. Watchers Are Quiet Signals

Even if watchers don’t buy right away…

    They’re telling eBay:

    👉 “This is interesting.”

    That can:

Boost visibility Trigger more impressions Lead to delayed sales

💡 That’s why sending offers can wake up old listings.

    5. Small Changes Can Trigger Big Movement

    Sometimes all it takes is:

Dropping price $1–$3 Ending & “Sell Similar” Updating your title keywords

    And suddenly:

👉 Your listing gets re-tested again

    6. Your Inventory Is a Numbers Game

This is the part nobody wants to hear…

    But it’s the truth 👇

    The more you list:

The more data eBay has The more traffic your store gets The more “random” sales happen

    💡 That “random sale” feeling?

It’s actually momentum building behind the scenes.

    My Real Take (From Experience)

    I’ve had items sit forever…

Then sell the same day I almost deleted them.

    That’s when it clicked:

👉 It’s not always about fixing the listing

👉 It’s about staying consistent long enough for the right moment

What You Should Do Right Now

    If your listings are sitting:

    ✔ Don’t panic

    ✔ Don’t delete everything

    ✔ Don’t assume it’s a bad item

    Instead:

Keep listing daily Refresh a few older items Send offers to watchers Stay patient but active

    Final Thought

    Your listings aren’t dead…

    They’re just waiting for:

    👉 the right buyer

    👉 the right timing

    👉 the right moment

    And when that hits?

It can feel like overnight success —

but it’s really everything stacking up behind the scenes.

  • 🐔 VEVOR Chicken Plucker Review: Pros, Cons & Real Homestead Experience

🐔 VEVOR Chicken Plucker Review: Pros, Cons & Real Homestead Experience

When I first started processing our own chickens, I didn’t have any equipment. I was boiling water on the stove and hand-plucking every single bird.

It took about 10–15 minutes per chicken—which doesn’t sound bad until you’re on bird number 12… or 20.

That’s when I knew if we were going to keep doing this every year, something had to change.

So I started researching pluckers—and eventually decided to invest in this one.

    The Machine We Chose

We went with the VEVOR Chicken Plucker, a stainless steel electric plucker designed for backyard farmers and homesteaders.

👉 And honestly… it has made a huge difference.

    ✅ PROS (What I Love)

⚡ Saves a TON of Time

What used to take me 10–15 minutes per bird ( which is fast!) now takes just a few minutes.

👉 If you’re processing multiple chickens, this is a complete game-changer.

    💪 Strong, Efficient Performance

The motor is powerful and paired with rubber plucking fingers that remove feathers quickly and effectively.

    👉 It doesn’t feel like a struggle—it just works.

    🧼 Easier Cleanup Than Expected

With the spinning drum and water flow, most feathers are pushed out during use.

Less handling Less mess than hand-plucking Quick rinse when you’re done

🔌 Smart Power Switch Placement (BIG PLUS 👏)

One thing I really appreciate is where the power switch is located.

Some machines place the switch underneath near the water or feather exit—which can cause problems over time from moisture exposure.

This one has the switch on the side, making it:

Easy to reach Safer to operate Much more convenient during processing

👉 It’s a small detail, but it matters a LOT in real use.

    Perfect for Homesteaders

If you raise your own chickens—even just once or twice a year—this tool makes processing day:

Faster Less exhausting Much more manageable

    ❌ CONS (What to Consider)

    🔊 It’s Loud

This isn’t a quiet machine (mostly because its spinning birds not so much the machine.)

👉 Best used outdoors or in a garage.

💦 Water & Feathers Go Everywhere

Expect a bit of a splash zone 😅

👉 Definitely recommend using it outside.

    📏 Takes Up Storage Space

It’s not huge, but it’s not something you’ll tuck in a drawer either.

👉 Plan for storage when not in use.

    🧠 Slight Learning Curve

Your first time may take a little practice.

Proper scalding temperature matters Timing matters Results improve quickly once you get the hang of it

🐓 Not Ideal for Just One Bird

If you’re only processing one chicken occasionally, this might feel like overkill.

👉 Best value comes when doing multiple birds.

    ⏱️ Hand Plucking vs Machine

Hand plucking: 10–15 minutes per bird With this machine: just a few minutes

👉 Multiply that by a full batch… and the time savings are HUGE.

For our family, this was one of those investments that just made sense.

It took something that used to feel long and exhausting—and turned it into a much faster, smoother process.

If you’re planning to process chickens regularly, this is absolutely worth considering.
